In reading this
document I have found substantial evidence from the author backing the claim
that any Pro-Ana site should be removed from the internet. My real question
still remains though, why? Don’t get me wrong here, anorexia is a disease, any eating disorder is a disease and anyone suffering
should seek professional help immediately. I myself have even been victimized by one through family members. Yet, why should we take these down? Women who suffer
generally already suffer from another psychological condition and this eating disorder
is a punishment to themselves for being so different or just the only thing
they can control. Though, maybe we should see these websites not as a way of
encouraging women to stick to their lifestyle, but as a way to cope with what
they are dealing with. Like a shock therapy of sorts. While this could put
someone back in treatment, it could also show them they are not alone or serve
as a reward or a, “Look how far you've come (fill in name here)!” While these
websites might not be seen as a good thing, they could have more than just
negative effects.
